Dartmouth Sailing Week is one of the most enjoyable and welcoming events in Devon’s sailing calendar – an unmissable mix of fun, competitions and entertainment (not forgetting those all-important refreshments!).  Its special atmosphere makes it a firm favourite with local and visiting sailors, and spectators will find a glorious floating display to watch and admire.

The week, which starts with the Senior Dinghy Regatta and then continues on to the August Bank Holiday weekend, showcases the river Dart in all its glittering summer glory, and whether you’re afloat or on land, you’ll find yourself drawn into the exciting programme of events.  Among the mix are many old favourites – after all, Dartmouth Sailing Week is now in its 174th year – as well as new activities, ensuring that all the family are involved and entertained.

According to Peter Boote, Chairman of the Joint Regatta Sailing Committee: “Dartmouth Sailing Week is a truly inclusive event. It’s the one time of the year when everyone goes out on the river – no matter whether you’re a beginner or an expert – and the emphasis is on enjoying yourself, having fun and getting to know your fellow sailors.”

There’s something for everyone among the long list of competitions and entertainments, which includes…

•    Junior dinghy demonstration race in front of the South Embankment on Wednesday afternoon to show how it is done!

•    Races for dinghies, modern and classic yachts and small day sailing boats – all make splendid watching for folks ashore

•    New for 2018 is a Cruising Skills Competition. Ideal for the less competitive sailor – you can score points for making tea or even going to the pub (!)

•    Also new for 2018 – Sunday Funday – a rip-roaring nail-biter of a sailing race designed to test both your tactical and sailing skills
