Broker's Comments
I have always been impressed with Feeling’s ability to squeeze a quart into a pint pot while still making a boat that looks stylish and, well, quite racy. The 286 Special is a case in point. Quite how they’ve managed to find room in a 28’ boat for a big saloon, with U-shaped seating for at least six around an enormous table, yet still provided an aft double cabin you might not expect to find in a boat 10’ longer, is a bit of a miracle. The heads is a good size, yet there’s a big cockpit and a rather sleek shallow stepped stern as well. This has been achieved through some innovative thinking at the design stage. For example, the engine has been located under the saloon table, concealed within its own casing, which readily unclips to provide exemplary all-round access. Additionally, this engine location allows greater space in the aft cabin and the heads. The galley is L-shaped and well set out. Opposite it, to port, is a very decent-sized forward facing nav station, with its own seat. Of course, something has had to give. In this case it’s the fore-cabin area. Instead of the customary door-accessed twin V-berth, the area forward of the saloon is open to the saloon, with privacy provided only by a pair of curtains. The fore-berths themselves are a bit on the smaller side, though there is room for one tall-ish adult, or for a couple of children, which might make this layout ideal for a small family. Performance, by all accounts, is sprightly. I should add that this boat is nicely finished, and in pretty good nick, both inside and out.
