Broker's Comments

You may have seen the MacGregor 26 at the Boat Show and been impressed by the sheer cheek of the boat. OK, so she might not be your first choice for crossing the Atlantic, but the versatility of a proper sloop-rigged sailing boat you can sail or, if time’s running short, motor home at up to 20 knots makes it a very appealing prospect. If that was you and you thought, good value new though they are, it’s a bit more than I can afford, we may have just the thing for you here. Little used, but well kept and pretty much immaculate, our specimen offers a significant saving on the new price. She’s full of good ideas: she’s a trailer-sailer with water ballast that drains out as she’s drawn onto the trailer. The binnacle-mounted steering wheel controls both the 50HP Yamaha outboard and the twin rudders, hinged so that they can be hoisted out of the water when you want to motor. The big engine has electric trim and lift of course. Down below, the neat little galley unit slides on rails to make room for a wide double berth under the cockpit. There are berths for four more, if you really want to be cosy. Open plan design and clever use of mirrors makes the interior seem particularly light and spacious; the soft upholstery makes her feel comfortable and just a little bit luxurious. If you want to have a motorboat and a sailing boat, but can’t afford both, and are happy to accept that there will be some compromises inherent in the design, this may just be the boat for you. And if it wouldn’t suit the purists (from either camp), well so what? They’re a stuffy bunch anyway, and you’re interested in having fun with the kids. Which is as it should be!
