Not having encountered a Nova before, I wasn’t sure what to expect. What I found pleasantly surprised me. There was a lot to like. This is a very solid cruiser that looks highly sea-worthy, with her long fin and deep transom-hung rudder. The hull has polished up beautifully for her age, and I like the timber toe rail that encircles the deck, with some lovely detailing in timber at the peak of the stem. I also liked the way the hatch roof is in sections that can slide forward, opening up the cabin to the air when in harbour, like a big sunroof. All the timber work is very solid, not least of all in the cockpit floor. The depth of the hull allows for plenty of headroom in the saloon. She’s had quite a bit of updating: the winches, sink and running rigging all look pretty recent, and I secretly suspect that the microwave oven may not have been original equipment. When shore power is unavailable for cooking, a new-looking double burner Origo spirit hob has been fitted. She could use a bit of a tidy of course, but there’s a lot of boat here, for not a lot of money.
