For that cosy country cottage feel, it’s hard to beat a wooden boat (though a cosy country cottage itself would probably edge it in a cosy country cottage competition). Palmer Boats were built in a small Irish yard no longer extant. They appeared to know what they were doing, all right, and this charming yacht looks a serious passage maker. Several of the photos show the substantial hull construction work, and the owner tells me that she has been West System-epoxied throughout the hull and superstructure. Under the anti-foul is a twelve-year-old layer of copper-coating, to add to the hull’s water resistance. She’s a pretty-looking yacht, with her long keel and distinctive canoe stern, and she’s set-up for short-handed sailing with in-mast reefing and all lines being led back. Her current owner has clearly looked after her, and she looks ready to go. Distinctive, attractive and a bit unusual – this is not your usual average white boat.
