Lawie Davidson, hailing from New Zealand is a sailing yacht designer, probably most notable for his America's Cup yachts, which in San Diego, with NZL 32, successfully challenged for the Americas Cup in 1995, beating Team Dennis Conner’s boat, Young America ( USA–36 ) in five straight races and then successfully defended the trophy in Auckland 5 years later, against challenger Luna Rossa once again in five straight races, with Team New Zealand .
Other notable designs are Waverider for Tony Bouzaid the first yacht to ever win the Half Ton Cup twice and Pendragon a Three-Quarter-tonner for John MacLaurin which won the Three-Quarter Ton cup held in 1978 in Vancouver and the One Ton Cup held in Rhode Island a year later.
In 2007 Lawrence Karl Davidson was inducted into the America's Cup Hall of Fame.
Other successful designs have been the M20 GRP trailer sailer in 1973, the Davidson 28, the Davidson 31, the Davidson 35, the Davidson 40 and the Cavalier 37' & 45' production yachts.
