This was my first fin keeler, and I have sailed since all over the world on larger yachts but never managed to log over 5 knots under sail for long passages that I could in the Verl. A brilliant sea boat and no need to reef down when the wind increases . I sailed her many hundreds of miles around the Welsh and Irish Coasts in the 1980's.
The Hustler 30 has a similar underwater profile with longer waterline length but I could regularly sail faster than those. Designed by Robert Clarke the smallest yacht he did, of Chichester yacht fame . It has a tumblehome hull profile, not seen on production yachts since. An amazing sea boat and I may have bought her back if she was still for sale!
