Broker's Comments

Westerly missed a trick with the GK24. They decided to aim it at the cruising market as well as out-and-out racers, offering it with different rig and engine options. What might have been the one-design class of her era finished up in many different guises. However, the racers’ loss was the cruisers’ gain, in many cases, finishing up as they did with a fast pocket cruiser that they could also race successfully at weekends. She’s still a sharp-looking yacht. The lines look great, and the flush coach-roof makes working on deck a secure experience. The same design limits head-room down below somewhat, but there is still plenty of room to sit, eat and sleep. Even the heads is surprisingly spacious, and room has been found for a standard-size toilet bowl, rather than the mini-toadstool normally on offer. The interior could use some tidying, but the pride of the boat can be found in its gleaming hull. Best of all in a boat of this age, is its new engine: a Lombardini marine diesel with just 36.5 hours on the clock on the day I saw her. Race or cruise or both: take your pick.
