Broker's Comments

Kim Holman and Don Pye formed a partnership in the 1960s designing yachts in the early days of transitioning from timber to GRP construction. They are said to be responsible for some of the most beautiful yachts in the world. Bowman Yachts in Emsworth (UK), built their first Holman and Pye, the Bowman 36 back in 1970 and then continued, merging for a time as Rival Bowman and then were acquired by Rustler. All of these names are synonymous with quality, well built ocean cruisers and the Bowman 46 is certainly a boat I would be happy to cross oceans on.

On deck she is beamy and uncluttered, making her feel safe to move around and everything seems solid and fit for purpose. The centre cockpit is well sheltered and set up with a folding wheel allowing plenty of space to enjoy when not underway. Despite having a good sized aft cabin there is still ample deck storage, a huge cockpit locker and plenty of space in the lazarette. The yawl rig gives a good balance of sail options and means she can be easily handled, electric sheet winches were added as well as a new windlass to reduce the effort needed to that of a more modern design.

Down below she looks the part. Varnished timber throughout and a traditional style layout with lots of original features and some upgrades to add to her comfort such as an electric head aft. She's laid out for sea, leecloths on the bunks and a mixture of singles and double berths to suit the crew. The u-shaped galley is practical (and has a hatch to pass the tea!) and the chart table opposite has everything in it's place. The aft cabin can be reached from below as well as from the cockpit, its a bit of a wriggle but the space is used for sail storage and the side panel comes out to give great access to the Yanmar engine and saildrive. She comes with plenty of equipment, some of it may need some attention but there's lots of useful boat bits!

Did I mention her lines? She's such a beautiful boat, the one you'd circle at least once every time you left her in the tender, just to have another look! An absolute classic in my opinion and ocean adventures await her!
