Broker's Comments

Fisher motorsailers were first designed by David Freeman and Gordon Wyatt in the early 1970's, styled along the lines of North Sea trawlers. Over 1,000 were built by Northshore Yachts in four different lengths, from 25 to 37 feet

The Fisher 34 had the longest production run of all, in build for over 35 years. They are traditionally-styled and heavy displacement giving excellent sea-keeping qualities and are generally regarded as the model in the Fisher range with the best sailing performance. There have been some variations over the years, both a sloop and ketch rig were options and in 1988 the Mk II followed, the main difference being raised side decks giving more room below

This particular example built in 1990, is sloop rigged. She carries the same sail area as the ketch but has a clear cockpit and lovely double companionway doors and large sliding hatchway allowing the wheelhouse to be open and airy when the weather is clement but snug and comfortable when conditions deteriorate. Her decks feel safe, the sturdy high bulwarks and over-sized fittings mean moving around the boat can be done with confidence however furling sails mean she can be sailed from the cockpit making short-handed cruising a breeze. The wheelhouse has fantastic all round visibility, ample seating and storage and under the sole boards has full access to the Beta 60 engine, new in 2019 but barely run in due to Covid restrictions. Batteries and stern gear can also be accessed easily

Down below she has the quality fit out Fishers are famous for. She is well cared for by experienced owners and feels fresh and dry despite the time of year. The saloon is spacious and comfortable with usable lockers, the galley practical with a Nelson stove and again lots of storage and the cabins fore and aft have good sized double berths with quality cushions and plenty of light and ventilation

As a liveaboard, (be that on a permanent berth or off long-distance cruising) I struggle to find a boat that ticks as many boxes as this one for her overall length. She may benefit from some updating, depending upon intended use and preference but she appears well found, well equipped and well cared for
