Tom Bettle - Boatshed
I first fell in love with boating as a small boy.
I longed for the school holidays when I would visit my uncle in Southsea, Portsmouth and head out fishing with the Southsea Angling Club aboard their 15' open boats.
At just 16 I joined the merchant navy with P&O Containers Limited and trained as a deck officer, learning to navigate the old fashioned way (we had no choice there was no other way) and taking the 4 to 8 bridge watch aboard both the Osaka Bay and Discovery Bay to various far flung parts of the world.
Whilst my time in the merchant navy was quite short lived my love of being afloat remained and after owning various small angling boats I found myself standing in the cockpit of a rather glamorous Italian motoryacht at the 2002 Southampton Boat Show asking for a job.
I've been in boat sales pretty much ever since.
New and used boats, mainly power, but sail too.
My passion for boats is as strong as ever and when I'm not boat fishing, working aboard the family charter boat or selling boats you will find myself aboard one of several fast orange small boats somewhere in the Solent as crew of Solent Rescue an Independent Lifeboat Station based at the Lepe Country Park, overlooking the central and western Solent.
I'm delighted to have joined the Boatshed team offering the very best choice and service in used boat sales, mainly focusing on my home patch from Lymington to Hamble, but always delighted to talk about boats to anyone, anywhere.
My local marinas where you will see me on and around boats include Lymington Yacht Haven, Bucklers Hard, Hythe, Town Quay, Shamrock Quay, Swanwick, Universal, Mercury, Port Hamble and Hamble Point... actually pretty much anywhere in the Solent and surrounding areas.
My own business, TB Maritime, also sells some very unusual new boats along with a great value range of new ribs, tenders and fishing boats.
