Broker's Comments

The J/105 is known as an offshore racing keel-boat legend, a great IRC performer and a boat that also boasts a strong one-design class dotted around the UK and North American coasts. That's a hell of a mix.
It is fun boat and surprisingly easy to sail, but as testified by the current owner of this 1999 model, when you reach speeds of 21 knots you understand just what level of performance you get from the J/105. She is still considered way ahead of the pack when compared with any of the modern 'retro' day-sailors in terms of performance, ease of handling, construction, sailing comfort and great looks.
This J/105 can offer the new owner an offshore capability and weekend accommodation for the occasional overnight. The bowsprit and asymmetric spinnaker system make downwind sailing simple for two people and thus requires fewer crew for racing.
This particular boat looks well presented and has a 2007 Sparcraft mast and standing rigging in place. She shows less than the normal signs of wear and tear that you might see from a heavily raced boat of this class and year. The sails look to be in good shape but if you are targeting the top end of a one-design fleet perhaps you would need to budget for some upgrading. The yard trailer is for separate negotiation if required.
The current owner is moving into more cruising than racing territory and tells an interesting story of why he purchased this particular boat. He was invited to take her for a test sail with the broker. Double-handed in 20 knots of breeze and they hoisted the spinnaker. She was incredibly quick and she showed great stability at speed in the brisk conditions, and the deal was made on the water on this evidence.
Please get in touch soon if you would like to experience the same and become one of 680+ J/105 owners worldwide who get the most out of their timeless racer-cruisers.
