The Pionier 9 is said to be the first series-built glass fibre cruising yacht built in Europe. A prototype was built of wood that became the 'plug' for the first fiberglass version which was finished in the summer of 1959, just in time to participate in the Flevo Race of that year. The designer Van de Stadt sailed the race himself and finished first in class.
This particular mid 1960's example has been under her current ownership for the past 4 years, during which time she has undergone many improvements.
In 2010/11 she was fitted with a new Beta diesel engine, new fuel tank, new battery, a new headsail furling system, a new sea toilet, and new standing/running rigging. A full survey report was also carried out in May 2011, a copy of which can be made available on request.
It would be fair to say that the boat could do with some cosmetic work in the way of a lick of paint and varnish here and there, but this is reflected in the asking price, which for a boat in such a sound mechanical and structural condition still offers good value for money.
Also included in the sale is an Avon inflatable dinghy, and a very useful collapsible winter storage cradle.
