St Helier marina, Jersey, will once again be packed with visitors for the annual Barclays Jersey Boat Show over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend (Saturday 05 – Monday 07 May).

As always, the Royal Navy will play a valuable and popular role in the Show with the welcome return of HMS MERSEY.  The River-Class offshore patrol vessel will be moored alongside and open to the public over the weekend. The 79-metre weighs a powerful 1,700 tonnes and is deployed primarily to undertake the vital job of fisheries protection and security.  Joining her will be two P2000 Archer Class Patrol Vessels, HMS SMITER and HMS RANGER, both Royal Navy Unit patrol ships and four offshore raiding craft used to deliver crew from ship to shore in strong seas and act as a fire support platform.

On shore a Military Village will be established, featuring a Royal Marines Armoured Support Group (RMASG) Viking All-Terrain Vehicle alongside a Royal Marines Offshore Raiding Craft (ORC). The Jersey Field Squadron will also be showcasing locally based assets.

No Barclays Jersey Boat Show would be complete without boats, food and action on the water…

The pontoons will be open to the public and packed with show boats from top manufacturers and local marine businesses.

Local musical talent will once again be showcased on the Solent Stevedore’s Main Stage, with popular acts Take This, Inside Job and 11 piece Little Big Band headlining each day.

Flybe are the new sponsors of the ‘On Water & Active Zone’. The outdoor zone is one of the most popular areas with paddle boards, kayaks and canoes on show. On the water there’s a variety of activities – a visit to the Gipsy Moth IV, Sir Francis Chichester’s round the world yacht, the chance to get out on the water for a RIB trip across the southwest coastline, taking part in a paddleboard race, watching the Duke of Normandy tug boat undertaking a series of buoy recovery demonstrations or taking part in a new Duck Race in the harbour as part of main sponsor Barclays’ charity programme.

For the first time at the Barclays Jersey Boat Show, Skydive Jersey will demonstrate its members skills with a skydive into St Helier Harbour every afternoon.

On behalf of Ports of Jersey, Myra Shacklady, said, “We are delighted to receive the support of Flybe at this year’s show and are pleased to see an impressive array of activities in their area, many of which are happening for the first time at the show. Of course, no Barclays Jersey Boat Show would be complete without the fantastic support we continue to receive from the Royal Navy. They have attended every year since our inaugural show in 2008 and I’m delighted that subject to operational duties they will be with us again this year. The Royal Navy guarantees another exciting element to the event and is always a popular draw for visitors of all ages”.

The Barclays Jersey Boat Show remains the largest free-entry event in the Channel Islands and is taking place in and around the award-winning St Helier Marina and Weighbridge Place over the Spring Bank Holiday Weekend (Saturday 05 to Monday 07 May 2018). The show gives residents and visitors alike the opportunity to dip their toes into all things nautical and discover at close quarters the wealth of maritime activities, services and leisure facilities available in the Island.
