Can you introduce us to the Marine Insurance Team?

From the left, Chris, Debbie, Dave, Kelsey (one of our generic sales team) Malcolm, Rachel and Sean (some members of the Team who were out on location working at the Southampton Boat Show 2015)

Do the Look Marine team come with experience?

Mandy, Tony and I have vast experience in marine insurance with many years under our belts.

Who can buy marine insurance from Look Insurance?

We are open to a conversation with anyone who owns a yacht, rib, jet-ski, canoe or dinghy and our friendly team are happy to answer any questions you may have.

What makes Look Insurance different from other Marine Insurance Providers?

Look was set up by Yachtsmen. Tony and I were involved in setting Look Marine up from scratch. Tony is our principle underwriter and is one of the Solent’s better racing helmsmen, he has won Cowes week and competed internationally for many years. I have been sailing for 30 years and whilst this is all racing, it provides a great background for making reliable and user friendly insurance policies!

What is the most unusual marine insurance claim you have had?

My personal favourite was a large sailing yacht which I insured, she left Malta on the way to the Balearic's and sank in the deepest part of the Mediterranean. Thankfully all the crew were rescued by a passing freighter but she was never seen again and it was a very expensive claim. Still to this day no one has any idea how it happened but the insurers paid out in 8 weeks.

Do you need a recent survey to cover a boat?

It depends on the boat, over 25 years old we will need one. Most insurers will need a survey that is less than 5 years old.

Does your team sail?

Some do, even though Worcester is not ideally located for sailing! We take the team out sailing a couple of times a year so they have first hand knowledge of what happens on board. We are lucky that one of our clients loans us their boat for a couple of days through-out the year.

Why LOOK?

The policy was written by sailors for sailors. The policies we sell have been written with the complete understanding of how boats are used and in clear and plain English. When we wrote the policy we understood how a yacht, RIB, jet ski, dinghy or canoe is used – because we use them!

Look Insurance is lucky enough to be owned by Canopius Group, a respected Lloyds Syndicate, so not only do you get a policy specifically written for your craft, you also have Lloyds security.

We have happy customers – 98% said they would recommend LOOK

What else do you insure?

Look has a number of other products – Marine Trade, Caravan insurance, Park home insurance, Classic Car and Military Vehicles (Tanks!). One of our sister brands is Golfplan, which is a PGA partner and is a leading supplier of Golf insurance in the UK. We have an over 50’s household product that was launched in 2014 and is already growing above expectations, which is great. Canopius Group AG ("Canopius") is the global speciality lines platform of Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Holdings Inc., which has total assets of c.$85 billion. Canopius is wholly owned by the principal subsidiary of the above, Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Insurance Inc., an A+ rated company and one of the top three Japanese P&C insurers.
