British Marine invites industry feedback on Women in Marine events

British Marine is inviting the industry to share its opinions on the future direction of Women in Marine events, with a new survey aimed at marine professionals.

British Marine and Soundings Trade Only held the first Women in the Marine Industry (WITMI) international event at METSTRADE 2022 on 16 November.

More than 120 women and men gathered at the METSTRADE Elicium Theatre for the event, which included a breakfast networking session followed by an industry leadership panel. The session, which was supported by Marine Industry News, was hailed a ‘great success’ and saw a fantastic turnout.

During the panel discussion, the speakers shared with the packed theatre their backgrounds, experience and insights as female leaders working in the marine industry.

“What an incredible event, with an inspirational panel of women. We have been delighted by how many people have joined us today. It just shows that there is a real appetite for inclusive events of this nature,” Lesley Robinson, chair of British Marine, said after the event.

Now, British Marine is interested to gather opinions from professionals who did not attend the event to generate interest, as well as shape WITMI content for future events.

The Women in the Marine Industry International panel discussion was videotaped and will be made available on the METSTRADE website in the near future.

Interest in the Women in Marine movement has been growing steadily in recent years. A Women in the Industry Summit and Industry Leadership Panel was due to take place at IBEX in September until the arrival of Hurricane Ian forced the event’s last-minute cancellation.
