Imray launches crowdfunder to help develop exploring app

Imray has launched a crowdfunding campaign to accelerate its digital offering Explore with Imray to get verified cruising guide and pilot book data in the hands of sailors.

The ‘big idea’ is to make a digital library, rather than leaving sailors using multiple platforms to find information, tell stories, get advice, and discover new destinations. Sailing apps are often focused on navigation and data, says Imray, but with its product there’ll be access to official and verified data from cruising guide books, as well as wider narratives.

It says that crowdfunding will give the business the chance to accelerate at a greater speed and get customers involved.

Imray gathers information from verified data sources, sailing authors, cruising clubs and direct from customers to bring together charts and pilot books for sailors. The online platfrom, Explore with Imray, is being launched in partnership with Eastpoint Software.

“We are thrilled to be launching Explore with Imray that combines the advances of technology and our detailed navigation information,” says Lucy Wilson, MD. “Our customers are at the heart of everything we do and we know they want our detailed pilot information digitally and the chance to interact with others and share their stories on a social platform.

“There is still strong demand for our charts and books but customers want to compliment that with digital.”

The project’s supported by The Cruising Association.

“The Cruising Association is very pleased to be supporting our long-standing partner Imray in its new project, Explore with Imray. This exciting project allows subscribers to unlock the data in the Cruising Almanac and other pilot guides through their new resourceful platform. We look forward to seeing Explore with Imray flourish,” says Lucy Gray, the CA’s general manager.
