Imagine sailing around our wonderful coastline, enjoying the ever-changing scenery and wildlife, experiencing the challenges of tidal currents, rocks and sand banks, and entering our many historical ports from the sea. Whilst being part of a fundraising venture for Macmillan Cancer Support? Well imagine no more!

In May and June 2016 First Class Sailing are sailing a boat round Britain in two 35' yachts - one of which was bought from Boatshed Essex.

The trip will be broken down into 7 separate legs, taking between 5-7 days, each offering something different and unique. Be it the 'self-operated locks of the Crinan Canal' or the picturesque harbour of Portpatrick, there will be various Fundraising Events along the way to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

You can choose if you wish to take part in one or more legs, or indeed the entire journey. Each leg will include at least one Yachtmaster qualifying passage (including sailing at night) where one member of the crew will have the opportunity to skipper the boat, knowing that a First Class Sailing instructor is on hand to provide any support, guidance and coaching if required.

Boatshed spoke to Colin Stracey of First Class Sailing who said he was delighted that they had already sold all spots on one of the yachts and that there was significant interest in the second yacht.

He added that this fundraiser was to thank Macmillan nurses who had offered support when his adult son James was rushed into hospital with stomach pains only to discover that it was bowel cancer. James had surgery and chemotherapy and thanks to the wonderful medical staff has made a full recovery.
