Steve Black - Boatshed Texas

Steve has been working with Boatshed Texas since May 2016.

He comes from a construction background and then decided to get into boating. He crewed for several seasons on super yachts based in the French Riviera before moving to the US. Steve has worn many different hats in the marina industry including; ASA sailing instructor, charter boat captain, delivery crew & first mate and skipper. Alongside working as a broker with Boatshed he is also a Yacht Manager.

Steve's best experience on a boat was when he was sailing past the Island of Montserrat during a night passage. This was on a Freedom 40 yacht delivery from St. Lucia, WI to Rhode Island, USA shortly after the volcano on the island erupted, the lava flow colours where spectacular!

He had a challenging sail when he was delivering a Freedom 35 which was an ex-charter boat and they had to sail with a jury rigged emergency tiller for 400+ miles. The last leg crossing the Gulf stream was the most challenging.

Steve loves boating around the San Juan Islands, Pacific NW and the furthest distance he has travelled so far by boat is 1400 nautical miles.

Fun Facts about Steve...

  • Pulled pork is his favourite sandwich filling
  • He loves an IPA ale or a nice glass of red wine
  • His favourite colour is aqua blue
  • His first pet was a horse named Honky Tonk Freeway (which belonged to his sister!)

If he travelled to a Desert Island he would arrive on a Traditional Gaff Schooner. He'd take a copy of How to Survive on a Desert Island and Bear Grylls phone # on speed dial. He'd listen to Dire Straits/Mark Knophler - Sultans Of Swing, Bryan Adams - Waking Up the Neighbours & anything from the great Billy Joel.

When Steve isn't working he loves to go kayaking, canoeing, SUP boarding, hiking, travel, craft beer & trying different food from around the globe. He's really looking forward to coming over to the UK to visit family and friends.
