Faulty gas appliances can cause carbon monoxide poisoning, a highly poisonous gas that you can’t see, smell or taste, and can led to serious illness or even death. It is estimated around 40 people die from carbon monoxide poisoning every year and 4000 people attend A&E departments with suspected CO related illnesses.

Therefore, believe it is vital that people know the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and what to do if you suspect someone has it. They say spotting it quickly can make a huge difference and the 6 main indications are:

MS Amlin Seamanship Award 2018

The MS Amlin Seamanship Award 2018 has been presented to the race crew of Sunsail 4018.

Four ex-service personnel, from charity “Supporting Wounded Veterans”, raced on Sunsail 4018 in The Round the Island Race 2018, overcoming significant challenges and achieving a great finish position.  Showing true grit and embodying the spirit of the “Race For All” ethos, they beat hundreds of professional and experienced sailors and as such are worthy winners of the MS Amlin Seamanship Award 2018.

A graduation ceremony for apprentices, hosted by British Marine at the Southampton Boat Show and featuring broadcaster and marine biologist Monty Halls, has been a celebration of the next generation of professionals entering the marine industry.

The annual event, now in its eighth year, was open to all graduating apprentices from British Marine member companies and saw a cross section of skills represented by the graduates, including sail making, boat building, marketing and business administration.

Barrus has announced the further expansion of its brand portfolio in the marine chandlery distribution market with the introduction of the G-Nautics range of boat accessories and Stazo high-performance boat safety and security systems.

As part of a distribution agreement in the UK and N. Ireland, G-Nautics and Stazo join Talamex and Besto, all brands owned by Dutch distributor Lankhorst Taselaar.

Sailing has not been included by the International Paralympic Committee for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

World Sailing has been informed by the IPC that sailing is not in compliance with one or more of the core criteria for Games inclusion as stipulated in the IPC Handbook. The IPC Handbook states: “For Paralympic Games Only individual sports and disciplines widely and regularly practiced in a minimum of 32 countries and three IPC regions may be considered for inclusion in the Paralympic Games.”

Cammas fights back from the brink to clinch GC32 Villasimius Cup

Light winds on the GC32 Villasimius Cup’s final day may not have provided the same top speed foiling action of the previous three days, but there was high drama across the leaderboard during the day’s three races with first place changing twice and third place swapping. Out on the bay off Marina di Villasimius, the 5-7 knot wind started off in the east-southeast before veering south-southeast for the last two races made for particularly tricky racing.

Franck Cammas’ NORAUTO powered by Team France started with a four point lead over Realteam, but this advantage evaporated when they finished sixth in the first race, as their Swiss lake racing specialist opponents won, reading the conditions with uncanny precision.

Future of Bavaria Yachtbau secured

A private equity fund advised by the Berlin-based investment company CMP Capital Management-Partners will acquire the entire business of Bavaria Yachtbau and continue its operations. It will also acquire all shares in French subsidiary Bavaria Catamarans S.A.S.

All 550 employees of Bavaria Yachtbau in Giebelstadt and all 250 employees of Bavaria Catamarans in Rochefort will transfer to the purchaser. The purchase will be completed after merger control clearance by the German Federal Cartel Office, which is expected in a couple of weeks. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

The SILENT 55 made her world debut at the 2018 Cannes Yachting Festival.

TheSILENT 55is the first and only ocean going solar-electric production catamaran in the world. The yacht uses silent electric propulsion for unlimited range with no noise or fumes and minimal vibration, she is self-sufficient and virtually maintenance-free.
