Award winning Polish skipper Asia (Joanna) Pajkowska and her boat FanFan set sail on 23 September from Mayflower Marina, Plymouth.
Asia has embarked on an epic solo non-stop circumnavigation around the three Great Capes on ‘Fanfan’ from Mayflower Marina. If successful, Asia will be the first female Polish sailor to do this particular solo voyage around the world. She will cover at least 21,000 nautical miles and will be at sea for around 200-220 days.
Fanfan is a 40-ft aluminium boat, built in 1985 it has been recently prepared for its daring voyage in Gdansk, Poland,with the installation of a 2nd autopilot and a hydrogenerator.
Asia Pajkowska has solid and impressive sailing form, having previously successfully undertaken a solo circumnavigation in 2008-2009 on board a 28ft MantraASIA, on a route from Panama, Westward and back to Panama.
She has also taken part in the solo transatlantic race OSTAR (Plymouth, UK – Newport, RI, USA and did the OSTAR race in 2009. In 2017 Asia and and Uwe Röttgering won the famous two-handed transatlantic race TWOSTAR (Plymouth, UK – Newport,USA), on board of another 40ft yacht Rote 66. For that achievement, they won the most prestigious Polish yachting award, the Trip of the Year and the Sailor of the Year.
