Portsmouth Seafood Festival returns to Gunwharf Quays this summer following the success of 2017’s inaugural event.

This free weekend event, which takes place on 30 June and 1 July, celebrates the city’s seafood and ancient fishing heritage.

Set to tantalise and inspire, the ingredients are being prepared for an even bigger and better festival. The event is unusual in that all of its vendors are seafood specialists, something which has attracted the support of local people and businesses and the prestigious Billingsgate Seafood School.

Organiser, John Pryde, said: “Portsmouth Seafood Festival 2018 is a festival for everyone, offering excellent opportunities to showcase the finest seafood produce around and engage with other sea-foodies.

“We have hand-picked our seafood vendors and traders based on their expertise and variety. These are people who are passionate about seafood, whether they fish for it, prepare it, package it, or teach consumers how to cook it.

Colin Wilding, General Manager at Gunwharf Quays, said: “The first ever Seafood Festival was such a success last year, and we are delighted to bring it back to Gunwharf Quays this summer. The event is all about showcasing the incredible selection of seafood available within our region, as well as raising the awareness of sustainable fishing and reminding people of Portsmouth’s proud fishing heritage.”

The Portsmouth Seafood Festival is open from 10am to 8pm Saturday and 10am to 7pm Sunday. Look out for Gunwharf Quays’ resident eateries such as the Old Customs House, Loch Fyne, Las Iguanas, Strada, who are all taking part and offering an array of speciality seafood experiences.

The event will promote and raise awareness around The Final Straw Solent Campaign (which aims to reduce the use of single-use plastics along the Solent) & “The Big Fish” project.
