Portchester Sailing Club opened for visitors on 18 May and 19 May. They registered a total of 378 visitors over the 2 days, and 24 who came twice.

The weather was relatively kind on both days with calm sea conditions, a light wind and although there was rain on Sunday afternoon it didn’t really dampen the spirits of our guests who took advantage of our welcoming clubhouse.

They were able to offer kayaking, dinghy sailing tasters, trips on cruisers, RIB rides and various demonstrations including the Cadets promoting ‘have a go at rigging’ and later sailing about in Toppers, model yacht racing from the jetty and a Training Exercise with Stage1 learners doing capsize drills!

The club workboat won the best dressed boat award as it ferried folk to and from the visitor pontoon for cruiser trips – 7 different member’s boats sailed around the harbour over the 2 days.

Dinghy sailors took people of all ages out in either their own or the Club Visions, Wayfarer and Laser Stratos for 20-30minute taster sessions. 6 dinghies on the water each day.

From the slipway we had 6 Kayaks lent to them for the weekend by Believe and Achieve of Portsmouth, which were very popular; wet bottom guaranteed.

The Membership Secretary signed up 24 new members on the weekend – including 5 family groups.

Absolutely everyone had smiley faces – not only the visitors but also the volunteers who worked together as an amazing team to make each day such a success and really great fun to be part of – huge thanks to everyone!
