WATCH: RNLI rescue jet skier drifting out to sea
New Brighton Lifeboat crew were deployed to three incidents in quick succession last weekend, including a jet skier who drifted out to sea.
Following a launch to a broken down vessel near Liverpool Airport, the crew were diverted by the coastguard to assist a person separated from their jet ski and drifting out into the mouth of the Mersey.
The lifeboat crew headed to the last sighting near the Fort Perch Rock and found the casualty who was now over a mile off shore, having been swept out to sea by the outgoing tide.
The lifeboat crew rescued the casualty who was wearing a wetsuit and a buoyancy aid, bringing him on board the boat and returning him to the shore. The man was then handed to the Wirral Coastguard Rescue and North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust for a health check.
Mark Greensmith, deputy launching authority, New Brighton Lifeboat says: “The rescued jetskier was wearing a buoyancy aid and a wetsuit. This is an excellent example of wearing the correct equipment when going out on the water.
“Had they not been wearing the correct survival equipment it could have been a much different story. If you are going to venture out onto the coast then please ensure you have the correct and appropriate safety equipment with you incase you get into difficulty in the water.”
