From the Galley - BEETROOT HUMMUS
This is a great Dish to impress your fellow sailors when you invite them round for drinks on an anchorage, also it can be done really cheaply and there are so many variations you can make with chick peas, beans when you are on a long distance passage.
1 pack of cooked beetroot (NB not in vinegar)
1 table spoon of Tahini
3 Garlic cloves
Juice of 1 lemon
1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
Pine nuts (one handful)
1 slice of brown bread
Braun blender (500 watt)!
Honda suitcase generator!
Toast the cumin seeds and garlic, (you can by pass this) then place all ingredients in a bowl and blend. If its too thick add a little water or olive oil.
You can eat this with crackers or chopped veg.
All ingredients can be kept on a boat for months.
Some ingredients can be supplemented for longer shelf life ones.
Fresh lemon for a bottle of lemon juice.
Cayenne pepper instead of a Chilli.
Crackers instead of a slice of bread.
