David Coumbe - Boatshed Cornwall

David took over Boatshed Cornwall (formerly Boatshed Falmouth) in September 2020, not ideal given what was to follow with the pandemic!

Unlike most brokers his background is in shipbuilding, he graduated with an honours degree in Naval Architecture and pursued a career that took him to a senior management role with Babcock International where he was involved with the Successor and Ohio class SSBN as Programme Director. Along the way there was a theme of yacht construction from 17m Oysters to a 50m Ron Holland superyacht. Subsequently, he spent many years working as a marine consultant in the superyacht industry throughout Europe.

David has spent many times aboard boats but his most memorable was
climbing the mast of the tall ship "Malcolm Miller" whilst at sea and under sail. His least enjoyable time was when he was involved in launching a brand new boat and one of the seacocks fell apart in his hand, luckily his thumb saved a sinking... He loves boating around Cornwall and the furthest distance he has been on a boat is from the Channel Islands to Amsterdam

In his spare time he loves to play golf, reading or just having a lazy day.

Fun Facts about David...

  • His favourite sandwich filling is cheese and beetroot
  • He loves to drink a refreshing glass of water
  • His favourite colour is blue
  • His first pet was called chocolate, a chocolate coloured dachshund

If David travelled to a Desert Island he would arrive on a submarine so it was more of a surprise when he arrived! He'd probably listen to Dark side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, A Trick of the Tale by Genesis or Making Movies by Dire Straits and read Fatal Storm which is all about the Sydney Hobart Race.

Finally we have all been restricted with our travel movements over the last year, however once we are able, David will be off to visit his Mum.
